The Ogun State government has procured water pumping machines for irrigation purposes and for the use of farmers during this dry season.
The Director of Extension Services, Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP), Chief Moyo Owootomo, said this at the Farmer’s Field Day organised in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, recently.
Owootomo said that the pumps were available to farmers at highly subsidised rates as part of the present administration’s commitment towards boosting agricultural development in the state.
The OGADEP director, while speaking on the theme “Insect control in vegetable orchard,”said the programme was an intervention of the FADAMA III, Component 4 Project.
The programme also featured the training of 62 farmers on insect control in vegetable orchards and on-farm demonstrations of treated cocorus olitorius (called ewedu in local parlance).
Speaking on the theme: “Insect control in vegetable orchard”, Owootomo said that the government had empowered OGADEP with necessary funds and personnel to conduct agricultural researches and proffer solutions to the challenges faced by farmers in the state.
“The government has put everything in place to help farmers with necessary equipment and other materials so as to help agriculture grow the state. Farmers should not hesitate to report any problem being encountered with their crops and on farmland either to OGADEP or FADAMA office,” he added.
