Odu’a to establish tomato processing plant in Imeko, Ogun State

Odu’a Investment Company Limited, an industrial conglomerate owned and controlled by Governors of five Southwest states has concluded arrangements to expand its business interest by establishing a tomato processing plant in Imeko-Afon Local Government area of Ogun state, BusinessDay has learnt.

The Company, with the support of Ogun State Government, has acquired vast pieces of land in the Imeko-Afon Local Government area set aside for the production and processing of freshly harvested tomatoes into tomato paste which would be produced in million metric tonnes.

Speaking at Imeko in the Imeko-Afon Local Government area of the state, the head, marketing and corporate affairs, Odu’a Investment Company Limited,  Sunkanmi Omidiji disclosed that, after effective feasibility study, Odu’a Investment chose Imeko-Afon which is noted for large quantity production of tomatoes as investment choice for the production and processing of tomato paste.

Omidiji, who spoke at the palace of Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Reuben Adebajo during a business trip, declared that Odu’a Investment would soon commence work on the acquired pieces of land, saying when plant becomes operational the factory would increase the nation Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and create employment opportunities.

He stated further that location of the tomato processing plant in Ogun state would not only increase the income generated by the Odu’a conglomerate but also jack up the revenue accruing to the coffers of Ogun state government.

He therefore solicited the cooperation of the people in the area in order to make the project take off successfully, promising cordial and corporate social responsibility-based relationship between Odu’a Investment and the host community.

Speaking earlier, the Onimeko, Oba Reuben Adebanjo expressed delight over the development and urged the company to commence work without delay, urging the company to pay adequate compensation to those whose lands were acquired for the project.

Speaking on behalf of Ogun State Government, the commissioner for Housing, Daniel Adejobi pledged the State Government’s commitment to rapid industrial development, saying genuine investors will always be given necessary support  through the creation enabling environment for investment and business to thrive.
