Sikirulai Ogundele |
Sikirulai Ogundele a former council chairman in Ogun State who was also a former state lawmaker, has announced his intention to vie for the governorship of the state in 2015. Former council boss stated this at a media parley held at Neugate Hotels, Abeokuta, on Sunday.
Ogundele, and two-term state lawmaker, said he would vie for the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying his party would defeat the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria in the state.
Mr. Ogundele said his performances as Chairman of Ifo Local Government Area motivated him to show interest in the governorship position; a position he has been eyeing for two years. “My intention to run for governor’s seat started two years ago following my performance as chairman of a local government. “I am running and I have what it takes to run. I have the credibility, I have the capacity. I have the structures based on my political experiences. I have to reciprocate my performances as former local government chairman,” he said.
The ex-council boss, a PDP chieftain in the state said he has the backing of the party leadership in Abuja to contest, adding that the PDP is not dead in the state. He claimed the party leadership in Abuja has pledged 50 per cent financial support for him in the course of his governorship ambition.
“PDP is my party and I am going to remain consistent. I am a goal getter. I don’t believe in failure. “For me to have handled local government administration successfully with number of awards, I can run state affairs successfully,” he said.
Mr. Ogundele, was also a former chief whip in the Ogun State House of Assembly.
