Two MTN Employees Docked in Abeokuta For Stealing Backup Batteries

Two members of staff of Mobile Telecommunication Networks (MTN) were docked before an Abeokuta magistrates’ court on Wednesday, over alleged theft of 58 MTN rectifier back-up batteries valued at N3.2 million.
Ayorinde Olukoju, (37) and Author Uchendu, (23), the two accused persons, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.
Inspector Augustine Ozimini, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the accused persons committed the alleged offences on November 15 and 19 at about 11:20p.m. and 07: 37p.m.
He said the accused persons, who were security guards of the company, stole 38 back-up batteries at MTN mast installation Mile 2 and stole 20 others at Crescent University Compound, Ayetoro Road in Abeokuta.
Ozimini said they were assigned to safeguard the MTN mast in the area and conspired with two others now at large to steal 58 batteries.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The two accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.
The defence counsel, Rasheed Ayanbiyi, applied for the bail of the two accused in liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Adekunte, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
He, thereafter adjourned the case to January 19, 2015 for mention.
