Children must not hawk during school hours - Ogun warns

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has issued a stern warning  that starting from the commencement of this year’s academic calender on Monday, the Ogun State government will begin to enforce the resolution passed by the Ogun State Children’s Parliament in 2011 which  prohibits children under school age from hawking wares and roaming around during school hours.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Sonubi, disclosed this while speaking at the kick-off of a three-day training and summer  holiday camp organised by her  ministry for children parliamentarians  both at the state and local government levels held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu.

Sonubi stated that the decision is to implement one of the resolutions passed by the Children’s Parliament during their inauguration in 2011 which is to encourage every resident across the state, particularly children under school age,  to benefit from the free and qualitative education drive of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun government.

She revealed that the Children’s Parliament is expected to serve as a legislative body to address issues relating to the welfare, survival, protection and development of all children across the state both at the state and local government levels, a duty which was a clear demonstration of the child-friendly disposition of the  governor  to issues affecting the overall development of all children across the state.

The commissioner, who stated that the camping  and training programme was organized  to expose and explore the innate potentials of parliamentarians to contribute meaningfully to the rebuilding agenda on-going across the state.
