Amosun debunks plans to defect to Accord Party (AP).

Daily Newswatch. Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Friday night cleared the air on the rumour that he’s planning to defect to Accord Party (AP) if the Osoba faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC) insisted they would not pick him as the flag bearer of the party.

Speaking with newsmen in an interactive session in Government House at Oke-Igbein, Abeokuta, he also denied the reports that he had held secret meetings with the national leader of AP, former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, in respect of his plan to cross to the party and get the governorship ticket on the platform of the party for the execution of his second term dream.

The governor said he was surprised to read some media reports recently that he planned to defect to the Accord Party if the alleged rift between him and former governor Olusegun Osoba costs him a second term ticket in APC.

The Governor expressed surprise at the source of the reports, declaring that it was the figment of imagination of the rumour mongers.

He said: “They said I was in Ibadan to see Ladoja on how I’m going to move to Accord Party because they (APC) are not going to give me ticket and I begin to wonder.
“In fact, I think the last time I met Ladoja was when (Governor Abiola) Ajimobi was burying his mother. He (Ladoja) came to greet me. If you are here, is it me that will go to another party? So, when they begin to say that, I just think it is just one politician that is using them.”
The governor, however, vowed not to decamp into another political party, no matter what happens in the APC.

He charged newsmen to always cross-check their facts before disseminating such, reiterating his commitment towards rebuilding the state and ensuring judicious use of states resources.
