Three PDP legislator in Ogun defect to ACN

Hon. Sola Sonuga

Again, the PDP in Ogun has lost three members to their arc rival, ACN as three of its members in the House of Assembly, on Tuesday, defected to the ruling party, Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN).

The defectors include Sola Sonuga, representing Ikenne; Babatunde Egunjobi, representing Egbado South; and Harrison Adeyemi, representing Ogun Waterside.
The defectors submitted that their resolve to cross carpet is as a result of the inability of the leaders of the party at the national level to settle the leadership crisis which has rocked the party in since 2008.

The local chapter of the party in the state is currently enmeshed in crisis resulting in four factions in Ogun State.

The party currently parades separate factions with, Buruji Kashamu, Gbenga Daniel, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, and Jubril Martins-Kuye controlling each faction.

The lawmakers, in different letters addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Suraj Ishola, expressed a lack of confidence in their former party and promised to work with the ACN government in the state to move it forward.
The Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, while welcoming the new entrants described their defection as historic.

Senator Amosun in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant (Media and Communication), Funmi Wakama, said “history has been made today. The legislators have heeded the call of members of their constituencies”.

“The people and the lawmakers have seen our good work and have decided to join us in order increase the pace of socio-economic development of the state. This is democracy at work, as the will of the people have prevailed. This is good for democracy,” the governor said.

The governor decried the campaign of calumny by a segment of the opposition who he claims “are planning to return Ogun to a state of anomie.”
“We will however continue to confound them with our stellar performance,” he said.

He also promised to continue partnering with the legislature in order to hasten the development of the state.

“As a former Senator of the Federal Republic, I know the import of executive-legislative cooperation within the confines of separation of powers on the society. So we are on course in our mission to rebuild Ogun,” the governor said.
