What 73 Year Old Did To A pastor In Abeokuta

A 73-year-old man, Mubasiru Abiola, was brought before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 December, 2014, for his involvement in a fraudulent land dealing.

According to Vanguard report, the accused was alleged to have sold one acre of land to two persons. It was disclosed that Abiola was facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

In the submission of the Prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Ozimini,  the accused committed the offence on 17 May, 2013 at Obada-Oko, a suburb of Abeokuta.

Ozimini told the court that the accused defrauded one Pastor John Joseph under the pretence of selling one acre of land valued at N1.5 million to him. The prosecutor added that the accused sold the land to the pastor knowing that he had already sold the same land to someone else. “The pastor was accosted on the land by the other person who had earlier paid for the said land. “When the pastor confronted the accused and demanded for a refund, Abiola refused to refund the said N1.5 million,’’ Ozimini stated.

The prosecutor further submitted that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.

After pleading not guilty to the suit, Magistrate Emmanuel Adekunte admitted the accused into bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case, thereafter, was adjourned to 20 January, 2015 for further hearing.
