Barely four weeks after the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) honoured Lafarge Cement WAPCO as Most Responsive Tax Payer for the Year 2013, a Ministry of Ogun State Government has voted Lafarge Cement WAPCO as the best corporate organisation on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The cement manufacturing company was awarded along side Consolidated Breweries Nigeria Plc. and Flour Mills of Nigeria by the Sate government, through the Ministry of Community Development and Co-operatives based for its track record on community development and intervention undertaken in accordance with its robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Presenting the Award to Lafarge Cement WAPCO representative, Olufemi Ransome-Kuti at a dinner marking 2014 Ogun State Community Development Day held in Abeokuta at weekend, Governor Ibikunle Amosun said that multinational companies were selected for recognition having adjudged the best in terms of community development and performance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Governor Amosun, who was represented by Taiwo Adeoluwa, Secretary to the State Government, described the awardees, especially Lafarge Cement WAPCO as partners in progress to Ogun state government’s mission to rebuild, adding that communities and State government could see positive impacts of Lafarge Cement WAPCO every year in the areas of education, infrastructural development, health, economic empowerment among others.

Speaking earlier, Duro Aiyedogbon, the Commissioner for Community Development and Co-operatives, whose ministry organised the Award Dinner, said that the three multinationals were recognized among other individuals for their community-friendliness and undertaking of various community development projects, just as he urged them to do more.

Commenting on the Award, Femi Ramsome-Kuti, General Manager, Supply Chain Operations, Lafarge Cement WAPCO said for Lafarge to be honoured two times in a month shows how responsible the company is, in terms of community development and performance of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), assuring its host communities that Lafarge would do more in years ahead.

“To be given two Awards in a month shows how responsible and responsive we are. We take governance very seriously and as a very responsible corporate organisation most of the things we do are not borne out of the fact that we are making money alone, we also hold the communities where we operate responsibility and that is how we have planned our organisation.

“We are very appreciative that organisation like this can call us out as one of the key people, meaning that our impact is fully recorgnised in the communities where we operate and we will continuously grow our responsibilities to the community, we have a dedicated budget to ensure that Lafarge continue to grow its responsibilities with the communities”.

Also, Ayoola Sodipo, Ogun/Oyo Area Sales Manager, Consolidated Breweries Nigeria Plc, who received the Award on behalf of the management, commended Ogun state government for recognizing Consolidated Breweries on CSR, which he said, is one of its priorities as a company, saying the company is proud to be associated with Ogun state on business and community development.
