A German Vocational Institute To Be Established In The State


An indication to this came to light in Abeokuta when the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Ashiru hosted a delegation of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The Commissioner noted that when established, the vocational institute would go a long way in reducing unemployment and create more jobs for the people of the State.

While advising the German chamber to collaborate with indigenous Chambers of Commerce in the country to ensure the smooth take off of the institute, Otunba Ashiru implored it to explore other areas such as capacity building through exchange programmes, noting that this would have positive impact on the lives of
the people.

Responding, the leader of the team, Mr. Andre Roennesir expressed happiness over the warm reception accorded them and promised that the chambers will work with other relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth take off of the institute.The manufacturing sector of the Nigerian economy remains the key to having a sustainable technological breakthrough. To this end, the Ogun State government has indicated its readiness to continue encouraging manufacturers operating within the State by creating an enabling environment for them to operate and thrive.

Meanwhile, the state government through the Commissioner has assured manufacturer in the state of continuous support  he said this when he visited an Armoured Vehicle Assembly Plant located in Ode-Remo, in Remo North Local Government Area of the State.

The commissioner who expressed satisfaction with the operations of the company said with its location, Ogun State has scored another first in the history of manufacturing in the country.

He noted that the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration remains committed to the socio-economic advancement of the State through its five cardinal programmes, pledging that it would continue to woo investors to the State through the provision of needed infrastructural amenities.

The Commissioner advised that in return, the investors must pay necessary levies and taxes into the coffers of the Government and be socially responsible by impacting positively on the members of their host communities.

Briefing the Commissioner earlier on the operations of the company, the Group Managing Director, Mr. Adetokunbo Ogundeyin said it is involved in the manufacturing of Armored Personnel Carriers (APC), armoured vehicles, Infantry Command Vehicle (ICV), ballistic vests and helmets among others.

Ogundeyin explained that the company’s skill transfer programme involves utilizing the capacity of Nigerians in its manufacturing jobs and appealed to the State Government to grant tax waivers to the company to fast-track development and growth.
