Ogun holds alternative energy expo and Nigeria Green Awards


Ogun State Government has concluded arrangements to hold Nigeria Alternative Energy Expo between October 29th and 31st this year.

The event, which is slated for June 12 Cultural Center in Abeokuta will be attended by stakeholders within and outside the country.

The state government said 10 foreign exhibitors have agreed to participate in the expo and also invest heavily in the Ogun's renewable energy project.

The state's Special Adviser on Energy, Chief Taiwo Fagbemi, who disclosed this at a press conference in Abeokuta said Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the National Science Technology and Infrastructure (NASENI) and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agencies of Nigeria (SMEDAN) have given their support to the expo.

He said all the local government areas of the country have been invited to participate in the expo as part of Governor Ibikunle Amosun's administration's efforts to encourage collaboration for broader support to alternative power.

"Ogun State today announced its upcoming (NAEE 2012),which will educate governments, industries, higher institutions, local communities and the nation about the advantages of alternative power and different technologies available for small to large scale power generations, green power," he explained.

Fagbemi, who stressed the need to Nigeria to focus more attention on alternative energy sources in order to boost power supply explained that the expo has the objectives to showcase local and international initiatives and technologies that are at the forefront of renewable energy technology and climate change resilience as well as bridging the gap between investors and renewable energy project development


"The Nigeria Alternative Energy Expo (NAEE) is designed to enable participants stay abreast of development and highlight issues affecting the energy industry and further provide strategies, technologies and policies covering the wind, solar, biofuel, hydrocarbon, geothermal, ocean/tidal wave, agriculture, environment, finance and hydrogen in Nigeria. We believe there is no better time to be part of this exciting moment that Nigerian government has pledged to deliver uninterrupted power through alternative energy.

According to him, the maiden edition of Nigeria Green Awards will be presented to individual and corporate categories during the Expo.

He said winners are being nominated on the basis of individual and corporate commitment in ecosystem initiative, resilience in the investment in clean and renewable energy sources.
