Ogun State government has  warned the people against illegal felling of trees in the state forest reserves.

Mr Falilu Sabitu, the Commissioner for Forestry, sound the warning in Abeokuta while inspecting detained truck used to carry illegally felled trees.

He said the truck was intercepted at Ogbere toll point in Ijebu East Local Government Area by forest guards on patrol.

The commissioner advised drivers and owners of trucks used for loading of trees from the reserves to always demand for relevant papers to avoid contravention of the law.

He said the driver in this particular case taking away the billets claimed ignorance of the source of the logs.

Sabitu said that machinery had been put in place in all the nine forest reserves in the state to stop perpetrators of illegal tree felling.
