Avoid demolision of your properties, 'build right', Ogun tells CDAs to enlighten residents

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Urban and Physical Planning, Ogun State, Mr. Taiwo Megbope, gave the charge while addressing some CDAs in Sagamu during the bureau’s ‘Build Right’ sensitisation programme.

A statement by the Information Officer, BUPP, Adeyinka Ogundaini, quoted Megbope as reminding the CDA officials that among other things, town planning laws frowned on erecting structures beneath high tension power lines, on land designated for major road projects and on waterways and drainage channels to prevent flooding.

The permanent secretary said the programme was organised to sensitise the people to the need to adhere to town planning regulations, warning that those who contravened them would have their structures demolished.

To prevent the painful experience of demolition of structures, Megbope enjoined the CDAs to sensitise their members to the need to visit the nearest town planning offices in their areas for clarification, adding that the government derived no pleasure in pulling down structures.

In his response, the Chairman of Community Development Associations in the state, Chief Tokunbo Akinsowon, described the ‘Build Right’ programme as a great idea capable of assisting people to make the right decisions when building their houses.

He promised that members of the various CDAs would abide by the rules and regulations guiding sustainable town planning and help in the process of rebuilding Ogun State.
