401 Kara Fire Victims Get Relief Materials From Ogun Govt

Ogun State government has donated relief materials to over 400 victims of the recent Oluwanisola Kara cattle market in Ifo local government area of the state as part of its efforts to give succour to the affected traders.

The fire incident which ravaged a section of the market, according to a statement by the press officer, Ministry of Environment, Miss Olawunmi Fadairo, affected 401 victims and 256 shanties. It was the second fire incident within one year.

Speaking during the distribution of the relief materials held at Kara market, the state commissioner for environment, Engr. Ayo Olubori expressed government’s concern over the incident, calling on traders in the market to ensure that all hands are on deck to prevent future occurrence of the incident.

“Remember last year, we had a similar experience and investigation revealed it was actually caused by the storage of petroleum product within the shanties. That is not acceptable; government alone cannot monitor the shanties on daily basis, so the people need to do a lot on their own concerning their health and safety issues; they have to be cautious,” he said.

Olubori assured that government would continue to provide succour to disaster victims across the state irrespective of their tribe, culture and religion, adding that government has concluded plans to relocate the Kara market.
