Daniel Denied Entry Into Obasanjo's Home In Abeokuta

Abeokuta — Attempts by former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel to get the blessing of his estranged political godfather, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo was scuttled on Sunday, as he was prevented from gaining entry into the former president's house.

Daniel had planned to see Obasanjo to smoothen his relationship with the former president ahead of his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) tomorrow.

It was learnt that when Senate President David Mark and other PDP leaders met with Obasanjo last week, they discovered that Daniel has not made any move to reconcile with the former president.

A source at the meeting said the Senate President and the entire team members were shocked because they learnt that "Baba had not received the former governor in his house for over two years now."

This, it was gathered, may have infuriated the Mark-led delegation who advised Daniel that it would be in his best interest to reconcile with the former president if he wants his defection to the PDP to have the desired impact.

Daniel was said to have tried to enter Obasanjo's house with a trusted acquaintance of the former president but they were prevented from entering the house when he was spotted in the car.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 10.30 am and it reportedly left the embattled ex-governor worried.

The former leader of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) and Labour Party (LP) had engaged in supremacy battle with the former President and vowed never to return to the PDP, despite his interest to work for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Efforts to get the media aide to Daniel, Mr. Ayo Giwa, were futile as his phone number was not going through.
