Gunmen Kidnapped Tai Solarin University Of Education Lecturer

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Olusoga Olusanya, of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

According to Premium Times, Mr. Olusanya was returning from the Federal University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, who served as an external invigilator in the ongoing postgraduate examination, when unidentified gunmen accosted him on Monday evening, October 13, along Odogbolu-Ijebu- Ode-Ore-Benin expressway and abducted him.

The gunmen also abducted Mr. Olusanya’s driver. However, they dropped the driver off along Odogbolu Road.

The student of the university, who gathered at the main campus in Ijebu-Ode expressed their shock about the incident.

According to a source, who pleaded not to be named because he is not authorized to speak on the matter, said Mr. Olusanya’s kidnap might have prompted the postponement of the emergency senate meeting of the university.

Reportedly, the meeting was expected to hold on Tuesday but was shifted when news of the DVC’s kidnap was revealed.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Oluyemisi Obilade, as well as the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in the university, Akinsola Akinsanya, have called for an unconditional release of the university teacher.

Mr. Obilade said: “All I want is the unconditional release of my DVC.”

The university reportedly has organised a prayer session to seek divine intervention for the release of the abducted lecturer.

Mr. Akinsaya said that the situation is indicative of the deplorable state of security in the country and called for urgent intervention by the relevant agencies of the government.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development, adding that investigations have commenced on the matter.
