Ogun Indigenes In Europe Charge Members On Community Development

Ogun State indigenes based in Europe under the aegis of the Ogun Progressive Union Germany (OPUG), have resolved to always engage in activities that would bring development to the state.

Speaking at a meeting, the president of the group, Alhaji Monsuru Adelekan, said it was important the members engaged more actively in the affairs of their state as their contributions for the progress of the state.

While speaking on the activities of the group, especially on humanitarian support to the underprivileged, Alhaji Adelekan called on members to render whatever help they were capable of to those in need in the state.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by Alhaji Adelekan, Fatai Koyejo (Ogun State Union, Switzerland), Kola Badero (Ogun Community Ireland), Dipo Olatunji (Ogun State Solidarity Association UK), Oluwole Oladapo (Ogun Cooperation Society, Holland) and Kanmi Soroye (Ogun State Club, Stockholm, Sweden), charged the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to intensify efforts at rehabilitating existing bad roads.

He queried: “I live in Germany and I know the importance of good roads. What I don’t understand is, why should the state government built flyovers where they are least needed?”

He added that the huge expenditure on such projects should have been used to construct rural roads, which would be beneficial for the economic development of the state.

Also speaking at the meeting, Deola Kester, decried the terrible conditions of most roads in the state.

She said: “A few months ago, when I travelled home I felt depressed because virtually all the roads in Sango- Otta are in a deplorable condition,” adding that “the government seems to have neglected the needs of the people.

Kanmi Soroye on his part, bemoaned the state demolition of houses without adequate compensation to their owners.

He advised Senator Amosun to always ask the people what they needed before. implementing projects that doesn’t improve their living conditions, while also urging him to justify the allocation received from the Federal Government since he assumed office through the projects that would have positive impact on the people.
