LP defectors to PDP were misled —Kawonise

A governorship aspirant of the Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State, Mr Sina Kawonise, on  Monday, said he does not have a political godfather, as far as politics in the state ahead of the 2015 general election is concerned.

Kawonise, a former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, said this while addressing members of the party from different local council areas in the state, held at the party’s secretariat in Adatan area of Abeokuta.

The governorship hopeful told the gathering that those who left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were misled by some leaders because of their selfish gains.

It will be recalled that former governor Gbenga Daniel, last Tuesday, led his supporters back to the PDP.

Kawonise noted that LP would bounced back despite the defection of some of its members, adding that about 25 per cent of those who defected with the erstwhile governor had since returned.

He assured that more than 50 per cent of LP members would return to the fold after the PDP primaries, stating that the party could not accommodate all the defectors.

“I want to say here today that LP is still very much alive and active in Ogun State. Those who defected did so because they were misled and am sure that within the next few weeks many of them will run back to the party. Please receive them with open arms. They are our members. I need to tell you that 25 per cent of those who went to PDP came back to our party two days after after the reunification rally.

“Equally, I need to inform you that more than 50 per cent of those that left will return to make declaration for this great party, because they cannot find accommodation in PDP. PDP is not a party of commoners. It is a party of godfatherism.
